Masterplan design
+ landscape detailing

A landscape masterplan for a completely renovated farmhouse in Anglesey, shaped to create a sequence of generous external spaces closely aligned with the architecture and setting.

The design brings structure, movement and atmosphere to a large and varied plot, establishing a framework for arrival, entertaining, planting and longer views across the land.

Landscape

Arrival, entertaining and long-term structure

A masterplan for a reimagined farmhouse garden, organised through movement, outdoor living and a close response to place.

Llywn Onn is a fully renovated and reimagined farmhouse set within a large Anglesey plot that includes woodland, open ground and a number of existing site features with strong character.

The brief called for a landscape equal to the scale and ambition of the house: an impressive new entrance drive, generous seating and dining areas for large gatherings, outdoor cooking, a garden gym, plentiful planting and a strong underlying framework to hold the whole together.

Existing elements on site were not treated as obstacles, but as opportunities. The well was retained and incorporated into the arrival sequence, while the former pigsty wall became the basis of a more enclosed outdoor snug — a more atmospheric and sheltered space that adds character and a sense of history to the wider design. The visual studies also show bespoke oak gates, local stone walling, a wildlife pond and a transformed outdoor snug anchored by the existing wall.

Closer to the house, the design establishes a series of connected outdoor rooms, including a substantial dining and cooking space capable of accommodating larger gatherings while still feeling integrated with the architecture. The visuals show a long dining setting framed by planting and trees, with the cooking area and gym held within the same wider composition.

The architect-designed picture windows created a particularly important opportunity within the project. Rather than simply looking out onto garden space, they allow the landscape to be composed as a sequence of framed views — living pictures that bring planting, structure and light into daily life within the house.

Material inspiration is drawn from the local landscape, the renewed architecture of the farmhouse and the character of the interiors, allowing the garden to feel settled and specific to its place rather than applied as a separate layer.

Completed as a masterplan in March 2026, the project now moves into the detailing stage, with the underlying design already establishing a clear long-term framework for implementation across the site.
