Studio

Gardens formed in response to place.

Based in on the Cheshire North Wales Border · Working across Cheshire, North Wales and the North West

Gardens are shaped as part of a wider composition — responding to architecture, landscape and use over time.

Layout, proportion and movement are resolved early, allowing the garden to feel clear and coherent once built.

Planting supports this structure, introducing variation and seasonal change while reinforcing the overall composition.

Background

Grounded in horticulture, shaped through design.

The studio is led by Jane Houghton, a garden designer with a background in landscape design and horticulture. Past roles include North West and North Wales regional co-ordinator of the Society of Garden And Landscape Design.

Training includes a BSc (Hons) in Landscape Design and Management and a Foundation Degree in Garden and Landscape Design, alongside early experience working in specialist plant nurseries.

Drawing remains central to the process — shaping how space, structure and planting are brought together.

Projects

The studio works on private gardens where design is considered from the outset — often alongside architecture, or as part of a wider development of the property.

This includes architect-designed homes, substantial family houses, listed buildings and rural properties where the relationship between house and garden is central.
